| Disadvantages of Home Schooling | Parents decided to home school their children must examine both sides. Definitely, there are plenty of advantages, but if they forget to pay attention to disadvantages, they may be setting themselves up for failure. Look through the list of some of them:
1. The home schooled children are often lonely because they are not socializing with other children of their own age. They do not frequently communicate with their peers about things like parents, homework, and school life and so on. They are not involved in school life and school curricular activities.
2. Parents are also isolated socially as they spend their days teaching children, rather than communicating with other adults in a work environment.
3. Home educated children may not find the benefits of many of the services and programs available to those within the school system.
4. Home schooling parents often face with loss of income because one of parents must be at home, at least part-time, to manage the children’s learning. In the case when it is difficult to get by on two incomes, it can be a real problem to get by on just one.
5. Home schooling parents comprise lack of confidence in their own and their children’s abilities.
6. They also face public or family criticism.
7. It is hard for parents to arrange career goals and work schedules to accommodate the needs of the family.
8. Housekeeping usually becomes a problem, as parents use their home time for home schooling sometimes combining it with work.
Only parents can make the right decision whether or not to home school their children. Take some time to think about such a way of education, do the research and weigh the pros and cons. |
