Learning Techniques

If a child is a social learner, it is useful for him or her to work with others as much as possible. They should study with a class or in formed study group with others at the same level. They do not have to be from the same school or class.

Role-playing is a technique that works well with others. For instance, in aviation training, role-play the aerodrome area. Children are walking around in circuits making the correct radio calls with the tower co-coordinating everybody. Another example might be to role-play with one person being the instructor and the other being the student. Parents should work on some of their children’s associations and visualizations with other people. They have to make sure their children understand the principles of what they are doing though they may get some interesting responses.

Rather than reciting assertions to them, children should try sharing their key assertions with others. By doing so, they are almost reaching a social contact. This strengthens their assertions. A child should share his or her reviews, review checklists and “perfect performance” scripts with those in child’s group as well. By listening to how others solve their issues, children may get further ideas on how to solve their own issues. Children may try sharing the work of creating a “perfect performance” script. All children write the script for the areas they want to work on the most, and then the group brings all the scripts together.

Maps and systems diagrams are helpful to work in class. One child may be the chosen drawer, while the rest of the class will work through material and suggests ideas. The group may have different points of view on how to stand for some ideas.

Working in groups to perform behaviors or procedures will help children to realize how to deal with differences. While seeing the mistakes or errors that others make, children study how to avoid them later. Child’s errors may be helpful for others as well. If children are in groups it may help them to have everyone do the learning styles survey. This may help everybody to understand why every person has different points of view. It can also help with transmission of activities to other children. Individuals may volunteer for activities based on either the styles they now have, or the styles they want to learn.
