| Homeschooling - Don't Forget the Music | The option for homeschooling children is one of the most important decisions that a parent can ever make. It needs bravery to "go against the norm". But now when you control over the education you child will receive, it's important to choose a well-rounded curriculum. The children will certainly learn how to read and write, do mathematic calculations, and learn social studies. But what is about non-academic subjects such as music and art?
Lots of schools cut back on non-academics because of budgetary restrictions. That’s a pity, since music lessons (in particular) can have an astounding effect on the child's overall grades.
Researches have shown that there is a link between music and intelligence. Music education, specifically piano instruction, is far superior to computer instruction. In summary, such type of training "expands the brain". Children learn theoretical reason skills, which are the foundation for learning math and science. Nowadays, many communities have realized their mistake and are trying to reverse the trend. But more still needs to be done across the country.
So here is your opportunity to really help your child grow. You have to teach the academics, but not to forget about music and art, and any other non-academic subject you chose. Encourage your children - let them experience the joy of learning.
Divide the day with creative time by allowing your child to study music history and theory. Let your children learn an instrument, or two, or three! Piano is the best place to start. You are not required play these instruments yourself. Search for some great teaching tools out there; it's just a matter of finding the right ones. Otherwise, choose a method that is "fun". Music as well as art is meant to be fun, not rigorous and boring. Therefore, the more pleasure a child gets out of it, but the better they become at it.
Take full advantage of your child's chances for success in life with a well-rounded education. Open up both sides of your child's brain, you’ll allow him or her real opportunity to achieve.
