Higher Education for Home Schoolers

Higher Education for Home Schoolers
In the past, home schoolers have had to fight for the right to be admitted to many colleges and universities because many institutions simply have no idea about advantages of home education or were puzzled about eligibility requirements for home schoolers.

According to the recent opinion poll, nearly 50% of home schooled students in the USA attend college, the similar percentage as students educated in public schools. But the question is that are these students skilled enough to study effectively with conservatively-schooled students in the college? Perhaps the answer would be positive as home schoolers and traditionally educated students show the same academic preparedness for college and academic progress. There are no significant differences in critical thinking skills between college or university freshmen who had graduated from different kinds of high schools, including public schools, Christian schools and home schools.

The majority of universities are excited with home schoolers as they are intelligent, responsible and skilled young people. They developed their own policies in order to evaluate home schoolers who have not typical transcripts or high-school experiences. Each college or university evaluates home-schooled students in a different way. Many college or university applicants are asked for the recommendation letters from a teacher. Others evaluate home-schooled applicants using typical application requirements, such as admission tests or personal essays showing high-school-diploma equivalency. Other colleges require more application materials foe example tests in several subjects.
