| Admission Policies | Before choosing colleges, it is recommended to get to know about their admission policies and check if they have an exactly home-school admission policy or if they have admitted home schoolers in the past. Interested home schoolers can ask their local home school associations or admission offices for the advice about the college application process in order to be sure that their application will be reviewed before applying to colleges. Nearly all colleges or universities have so-called "gatekeeper" courses that are preferred for all applicants to complete. College admission officers expect that all home-schooled students need to take these college preparatory courses or at least learn the course material.
It is a common practice in some colleges or universities to interview an applicant directly in admission officers. Such a way of college admission gives an admission officer an opportunity to get a more accurate impression of the student. In order to be admitted the home schooler has to demonstrate his excellence both academically and personally including information about his learning experiences and the activities that he participated in during his school years.
Some universities or colleges have created guidelines specifically for home educated students to help them in planning of the submission portfolios, typical public school transcripts and propose them many other resources that can help them to get information and prepare for the entrance to the university or college.
