General Educational Development or the GED test was first established in 1942 in order to help the war veterans to complete their basic high school education. Nowadays, the GED test has become the best alternative for at least 38 million of people in America. A lot of people that have no high school diploma or a diploma from an unaccredited high school and want to reach better career and educational opportunities take this test.
In the GED tests, emphasis is laid on the application of relevant knowledge and critical thinking abilities, and not on memorization. These tests measure the level of maturity achieved through experience, which is sometimes higher than the level of a high school graduate. So, it is recommended to remember always that answering the GED is arduous and challenging experience.
Every person who has no a high school diploma needs to be at least 19 years of age to take a GED test. Some states even allow 16-17 year old students to appear for this test.
A person can appear for this test if he or she was home schooled, never attended a high school, left his or her studies midway or attended an unaccredited high school.
Examiners possess the right to dismiss a candidate if found using unfair means in the test. A candidate dismissed, cannot re-appear for the GED for the next two months.
