• Family. Homeschooling gives opportunities for parents to build a very close bond with their children. The pleasure of teaching and learning together can be profound. There are a lot of opportunities to offer love and support.
• Flexibility. There are no limitations on when you can go for a walk, go to the museum or even go on a vacation. If your child is sick, he or she can be under constant care.
Cons • Fear. Being completely responsible for your child’s education can be frightening. When anything doesn’t go as you planned, it can be frustrating and demand a lot of patience.
• Time. Homeschooling is a full-time job to research a curriculum, plan individual lessons (especially when you have children of different ages) and then teach them. It’s a huge commitment. By trying to do so at the same time as running a household, it can seem impossible.
• Isolation. It is stressful a bit to spend so much time with your family, since everyone needs a break at some point. You should work extra hard to ensure that everyone gets out of the house and spends time with peers (it includes you and the children!).
• Financial restraints. Homeschooling can vary from expensive to very expensive. Not only you have to purchase school supplies, but often one parent must sacrifice the ability to work at a paying job in order to be home with the kids.
• Social stigma. Some families report that they’re misunderstood by neighbors and that their children aren’t accepted by children enrolled in a traditional school. You should be ready to face opposition from neighbors, friends and even family.
