It is important to evaluate achievements of a child while home schooling in order to be conscious of his or her development. Check out the testing information and its types.

Types of Tests

Types of Tests
  1. Informal tests that work together with both the government given curriculum and the parent personal assessment of the student. One main disadvantage of this is that parents have lack of proficiency and knowledge, causing incapability of evaluating the child accurately. This could lead to ignoring of some subjects and demonstrates negativeness in grading the child correctly.

2. Standardized tests developed by educational testing specialists evaluate meaningfulness and accurateness of child’s test results. All students giving the test obtain the same version and chosen time. The scoring system includes percentile rank, stanine and grade equivalent. Percentile rank is the most accurate rank of a child according to the earlier model group scores. Stanine grades range from 1 to 9. Grade equivalent is supposed to be the most deceptive because of the grades fixed to the student. Furthermore, parents cannot see the test results, and they are not capable of correcting the students’ weakness.

3. Diagnostic tests are based on the students’ knowledge. This involves a fixed set of requirements that are scored by means of true test scoring criteria. These tests have the advantage of demonstrating the weaknesses and the definite strengths of every student.

Among the three tests, the standardized method is the most widespread among homeschoolers going by their diffusion levels.
