 The Montessori method was developed from the work of Dr. Maria Montessori at the beginning of 1900's. She was born in Italy in 1870, and in 1896 Maria Montessori was the first woman in Italy who got a medical degree and became a doctor. She worked in the fields of education, psychiatry and anthropology.
Maria Montessori considered the learning is an ordinary, independent process and believed that all children are born with unique possibilities. It was watched that children undertake periods of strong attentiveness during which he or she will replicate an activity until a child achieves a sense of approval.
The Montessori method focuses on the natural skill of a child to learn from his or her surroundings. Therefore the teacher intends to support the natural interest of a child. When a child realizes why he or she needs to learn something, he or she will like the process of learning. The Montessori method of teaching is particularly appropriate to the preschooler who wants to do everything by himself. Parents must find ways in which their child can take part in the housekeeping and help in cleaning, washing, cooking, gardening and other activities usually done by their parents in order to achieve the learning experience.
Montessori concentrated on artistic, cultural and scientific activities of children of 3-6 class. TV, junk food and computer are intolerable in educating a child. All the material must be chosen cautiously. A child is encouraged to do things that he or she is interested in, and the teacher picks up the teaching.
