This method is named after Charlotte Mason, who is known as the innovative educator who took a unique approach to education and even as the inventor of the home schooling movement.
As she was a home schooler too, she wanted to lay out the basis for a complete home schooling program that is not only efficient but also fun and educational at the same time.
The Charlotte Mason method highlights liberal arts such as poetry, classical music, crafts, fine arts and classical literature. This method is designed to support the knowledge of literature and involves reading to the child every day after which the child is asked to tell what he or she has heard. This method may be applied at the age of six and by the age of ten, the child is expected to write narrations in a book.
 Charlotte Mason recommended the use of nature diary in order to write observations of nature in the book as well. This creates a sense of respect as for the environment in the child. Mason was sure that good behavior and character were significant for the complete personality development of any child.
