Classical Method

classical_home_schoolingClassical education is exclusive and the most established form of education ever developed. This education created the greatest thinkers, leaders and scientists in the western world from the time of the Greeks until the late 19th century.

Classical teaching is based on the three formal classical subjects of the trivium such as grammar, logic and rhetoric. All children go through three stages of development and every subject has three levels of child’s development. These three stages or levels match to the formal trivium in the classical sense – grammar, logic and rhetoric, and to the Biblical trivium of knowledge, understanding and wisdom.

Students are brilliant at memorizing in grades K-6. In grades 7-8, students become more argument-oriented. They are prepared to study logic and critical thinking. In grades 9-12, students are practically independent in thinking and communication. Classical education teaches children rhetoric, the art of speaking, communicating and writing.

According to classical education a person has three mental abilities such as gathering up information – knowledge, arranging the information in a logical order – understanding and putting this information and this ordering into practical use – wisdom.

These three abilities are commonly depend upon each other, but there is however a logical and developmental order between them. All three abilities are developing in each child from his or her birth.
